Debbie started her cycling career with Team In Training in December of 2000, when she talked herself and 3 friends into signing up for their first Century Ride. The training was difficult for Debbie and her friends at first, but she soon realized that pain was her friend and her friends were pains. As the season progressed, the fear of "What did I get myself into?" was quickly replaced by "What new cycling toy can I buy now?" Within 2 months, Debbie outfitted herself with a new bike, gear and clothing.
Her skills as a rider progressed steadily and her enthusiasm was inspirational to her friends and teammates. Debbie's first century came in April of 2001 at the Chico Wildflower Century. She finished her first century in less than 8 hours. Debbie's level of commitment is a tribute to her honoree's. Her father died from cancer in September of 1996. Her friend Claire has been battling lymphoma since May of 2000, as is another friend, Jerry who was diagnosed with lymphoma in 1984.
Debbie has been a staunch supporter of Team in Training since her first days. In addition to participating in the 2001 winter season, she also created and maintained this website, dedicated to the North Bay Cycle Team. Debbie is entering her 4th season with Team in Training as Ride Support while assisting Paul in PIA duties.
Some of my favorite cycling mantras are:
Come ride with Debbie and learn what commitment is all about.
