Col. Fred T. Wilson
|November 20, 1918: 1st Division was reviewed by General Pershing and the Grand Duchess of Luxembourg. At this time he designated 1st Div. to be the first to cross the Rhine. |
December 13, 1918: Crossed Rhine at Coblenz Bridgehead. Division Headquarters established at Montabauer, 16th Inf. HQ est. at Dernbacj, 1st Bn. HQ est. at Herschbach. I billeted with a deceased German soldier's widow, her mother and child.
December 14 through August, 1919: Continued as Adjutant, 1st Bn. 16th Inf. in Army of Occupation from which we were the last to be withdrawn for return to U.S.
August 1919: Sailed for USA from Boulogne on USS Freedom. 16th Inf. now under C.O. Clarence R. Huebner - Lt. George T. Phipps, Adjutant. 1st Bn. now under Maj. T.J. Stangier - Lt. Fred T. Wilson, Adjutant.
September 5, 1919: Arrived Hoboken, N.J.
September 10, 1919: 1st Division Parade in N.Y.C., N.Y.
September 12, 1919: 1st Division Parade in Washington, D.C.
October 6, 1919: Honorably discharged after active duty from 8-15-1917 to 10-6-1919 of which 9-7-17 to 9-5-19 was outside continental limits of the U.S.
April 5, 1920: Married Louise G. Gedney, my school-girlfriend of many years. Ceremony was performed by Chaplain Earl H. Weed, my friend and Chaplain of the 16th Inf. in Army of Occupation Germany, who came north from one of the Carolinas. Lt. Alan R. Cole, my good friend from 1st Bn. 16th was my best man. Lt. Frank A. Melly, with whom I served 5-15-17 to 7-18-18 in the 16th was an usher. My Dear Wife, bless her soul was called home on 3-16-88.
